"The Best in the West" Feature Article

DESIGN GOALS:

Design a layout and home page promotion for the article "The Best in the West". This article was a top story featured on Merants intranet highlighting the best sales team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Homepage promotion needed to be a graphic 143x93 with a gray border and rounded edges.
  • Article must include photos of each sales person on the team.
  • Type needed to conform to the websites style guide.

AUDIENCE:

  • Merant worldwide sales
  • Merant employees

DESIGN SOLUTION:

The previous stories on Merant's intranet did not have a lot of thought to design to help entice the employees to read the articles. Most of the articles were a homepage promotion leading to an article consisting several paragraphs of body copy.

To liven things up I mocked up three different concepts for graphics that would compliment the context of the article. After reviewing concepts with the client we decided to be risky and go with the "outlaw" metaphor.

For the homepage promotion I used an old black and white photo of a team of gunslingers. Then in the article I used the same photo but removed one of the outlaws because the consisted of three sales personnel.

Next I added the gun and holster photo to complimented the sub header "What did you do to move the deal along" and it brings attention to the bottom of the page and breaking up the long body copy.
